In our opinion, this area is unrivalled for its beauty and accessibility to the Peak District, while being easily reached from major roads such as the M1. Being just a short drive from Matlock, you will be spoilt for choice with places to eat and drink, and the kids won't get bored with some wonderful activities available on the doorstep.

The Miners Arms

Nestled in the hamlet of Milltown, on the edge of Ashover, is the Miners Arms Inn, a delightful country Inn.

The Black Swan, Ashover

Ashover village is just a 5-minute drive or a short walk from the cottage. This pretty village offers a local farm shop and a selection of welcoming pubs, perfect for relaxing with great food, drinks, and a friendly atmosphere.

Heights of Abraham

Take a cable car flight to the Heights of Abraham, a 60-acre hilltop park with cavern tours, exhibitions, adventure play and much more.

My Favourite Place – The Magnificent Chatsworth House

One of my absolute favourite places in Derbyshire – and a must-see during your stay – is the magnificent Chatsworth House. Surrounded by breathtaking countryside, beautiful gardens, and peaceful walks, it’s a place I never tire of visiting.

Whether you’re exploring the grand house, strolling by the river, or simply soaking in the views, there’s something truly special about Chatsworth. I adore the atmosphere and the sense of history – and I hope you will too. It’s a perfect day out and a real highlight of this wonderful part of the Peak District.

The service is always excellent, and the setting – right by the river in Matlock – adds to the charm. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply love great food, Stones is a must-visit during your stay at Amber Lane Farm Estate Holiday Cottage.

Family Fun at Sherwood Pines – A Generational Favourite

Sherwood Pines has been a favourite with our family since the grandchildren were little – and even now, they still love the adventure it offers. From exciting cycle trails and woodland walks to open-air concerts and play areas, it’s a fantastic day out for all ages and in all weathers.

Whether you’re exploring the forest, enjoying the thrill of the bike runs, or simply unwinding with a hot chocolate topped with cream and marshmallows, Sherwood Pines is the perfect mix of outdoor fun and magical memories — a brilliant spot for families looking to reconnect with nature and each other.
